The Belgrade Auteur’s Film Festival (FAF) was founded in 1994 with the aim of presenting the best contemporary, artistic film achievements to the domestic audience. The works shown at the festival are different from most films from the regular cinema repertoire – they do not strive for mere entertainment, but for the search for a deeper, more realistic and complex picture of today’s world and man. This cult art film festival presents to the audience a diverse program composed of the winners of world film festivals, new achievements of directors that the festival audience loves and knows very well, as well as interesting films that show new trends in auteur film. The Auteur’s Film Festival hosts a large number of filmmakers, in addition to participating in the programs, also hold workshops with students.

The festival takes place in late November and early December, and brings over 80 films each year to over 200 screenings and over 10 cinemas across the city. FAF is a gathering place for local and regional and European film industries and a central place for networking and non-formal education of future film artists and professionals. The program is structured in 3 parts: the main program of the festival, consisting of current films of the International Competition, the Main Program – out of competition, the Brave Balkans competition, Band a part program and a handful of special screenings; retrospectives, honors and focus programs, as a special unit is the cooperation with other festivals in the region.
